How to Get “IT” out of the Carpet

September 26, 2016 by Kallie Peterson Leave a Comment

clean-home-2-1413304-1599x1308We have all done it at some time or another.  Spilled “it” on the carpet.  Whether it was wax, paint, gum or even punch it is an OOPS that can be very painful on the pocketbook.

So how do you get “it” out of carpet???? Here are some common remedies for spilling on the carpeting:

I do not guarantee that these will work, or that they won’t destroy your carpet.  I have tried them on mine and they have worked well for me, but you ALWAYS want to test before doing any of these to your particular carpet.

  • Wax

Use a white towel (cotton is recommended) and place it over the dried wax.  Use an iron set on high on the towel for about 10 seconds.  The heat draws the wax out of the carpet and onto the towel.  Repeat this, folding the towel or using a clean one, until the wax is done.  Be careful not to hold the iron down for too long, you don’t want to burn the carpet!)

  • Blood

If it is dried blood, try to use a steel brush on it to loosen the stain.  Then mix one teaspoon of hand dishwashing soap with 2 cups of water. Use a clean white cloth and dip it in the cleaning solution you just made. Then blot it directly on the blood stain repeatedly.  DO NOT “scrub” the stain, just blot it.

  • Paint

It it is still wet, blot the paint with a clean wet paper towel. DON’T SCRUB! Changing out the paper towel often.

If the paint is dry, use some hot water and dish detergent to soften the paint. Once softened, use a knife or pin to scrape the paint out of the carpet.

  • Gum

Place a bag of ice directly onto the gum that is stuck in the carpet.  This will harden it enough to scrape it out. Once you have it out, use some water & dish soap to clean the area.

  • Punch

Mix 1 tablespoon hand dishwashing soap with one tablespoon of white vinegar and 2 cups of warm water.  Using a clean white cloth sponge the stain with the cleaning solution you just mixed. DON’T let the stain sit!!! Clean it ASAP.
